The Chemistry Department data network is protected by a firewall. No outgoing traffic is blocked, so users inside the department can initiate connections to systems outside without interference. Incoming traffic is permitted to our VPN server, web servers and bastion host, but almost everything else is blocked.

University Port Blocking

The University also does some port blocking between institutions and between the CUDN (Cambridge University Data Network) and outside (JANET).
